The Torfaen
Vulnerable Young People's Action Group (VYPAG) |
|
The Vulnerable Young People's Action Group is a forum of practitioners whose primary concerns are Children and Young People. Representatives, at practitioner level, from various Torfaen County Borough Council departments such as The Youth Service, 16+ team, Social Service, Youth Access, Education and Health along with individuals from The Voluntary Organisations such as CCYP and CSV meet monthly in order to discuss cross agency issues that affect young people |
|
|
The original aim of the group was two fold, firstly to ensure that no
young person was allowed 'to slip through the net' when they needed help,
and secondly to ensure that young people were being supported by the
correct agency or agencies without unnecessary duplication, thus ensuring
young people were being assisted efficiently and by the correct agency.
Since it's inception this quite unique group has ensured that cross agency training issues have been dealt with. Issues such as a 'self-harm' training session was delivered by an expert from the Mental Health Team being made available to all member groups of the VYPAG. Similarly a workshop dealing with the 'Rights of Young People' being delivered by an expert from the Young People Partnership. This cross and multi agency training was unheard of in Torfaen before the inception of the VYPAG and is still quite unique in Wales. It is common for cross agency management teams to meet regularly but quite unusual for such a strong group of practitioners to meet regularly and in such a positive way..
