Torfaen Young People's Forum

To set up the forum young people have been involved from the beginning. Workshops were held in schools, youth centres and in local communities asking young people:

  • what they thought a Young People's Forum was
  • what it should or could be
  • when it should meet, and how often
  • who do young people want to influence
  • what do young people want to change

and

  • what would make a difference to their lives right now and in the future
  • which young people would go forward and join the Forum steering group

Torfaen Young People's Forum has held its first residential weekend away in May 2005 when young people who were chosen to join the steering group met one another. Over the 2 day period the group enjoyed canoeing, climbing and lots of team building games. Everyone got on really well and agreed they would like to meet again.

The first meeting of the Torfaen Young People's Forum was in June 2005 in Cwmbran: where again, young people who formed the steering group, met one another and discussed and then wrote down the Forum's Charter of Behaviour - that is how we are going to behave and what type of Forum we want it to be.

Meetings will be held regularly (at the end of every month) an in all different places across Torfaen. If you are interested in receiving information, getting involved or want to tell the steering group about anything then telephone Julia Rooney on 01633 648212, text 07980 682342 or email julia.rooney@torfaen.gov.uk
