Llantarnam Youth Centre - No Smoking Day |

To promote National No Smoking Day Llantarnam Youth Club held a workshop that included a test that showed the young people how much carbon monoxide could be detected in their lungs. A simple test that required them to blow into a digital detector made them realise that even smoking a small number of cigarettes could result in quite substantial readings. This coupled with a cost chart made them realise just how much smoking would cost them over a year or a 20 year period. Another test involved a smoking doll, a cigarette placed in the dolls mouth showed just how much smoke and tar was produced by just one cigarette. The resulting tar and smoke being condensed into a test tube. Hopefully the exercise brought home to the small number of smokers in the youth club just how harmful and costly smoking was. Over 20 young people took part in the workshop. |
