The expedition section is often regarded as the major part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award being the one that requires the most planning and often the most learning by the participants. Map reading, camp craft, fitness, first aid, team work, stamina, skill and the practice training expeditions culminates in the expedition itself. Many young people who have joined the Open Award Centre at Llantarnam have stated that it is the expedition section that attracted them to the Award in the first pace. This does not lessen the importance of any of the other sections. The Open Award Centre at Llantarnam has arranged many
expeditions to date at both bronze and silver award levels. Areas visited
include the Wye Valley, The Pembrokeshire National Park, The Brecon
Beacons, Twmbarlwm, Cwmcarn, Trefil, Heol Senni,
Talybont and Llangorse. All these areas
are within the immediate area of South Wales where we are based and when
you live in such a diverse and beautiful area then why travel any further
afield. |
