A while ago Cwmbran Community Council requested the assistance of officers from Torfaen Youth Service in establishing a Youth Council in Cwmbran. Requests went out to Llantarnam and Croesyceiliog Comprehensive and Fairwater High School for interested young people to put their names forward. Meetings at the schools were held when the possibility of the youth council being established was discussed.

It was explained that the Youth Council would have its own room within the Council Building, have their own annual budget and receive assistance from the Community Council in developing their group. Additional support and background help was promised by Torfaen Youth Service.

Cwmbran Carnival 2007

This is an exciting development for the young people of Cwmbran and illustrates excellent partnership working between Cwmbran Community Council, Torfaen Youth Service and the staff and pupils of Fairwater High and Llantarnam and Croesyceiliog Comprehensive schools. Although the initial consultations involved school pupils it is hoped that other young people who are interested in supporting this initiative will be co-opted into the group in the future.
