Careers Wares has been awarded a contract by the National Assembly for Wales to develop a free national information and advice service for young people in Wales aged 11-25. This service was formerly operated by Canllaw Online. Young people were consulted about a name and brand for the service this summer and the name 'clic' and the logo above was chosen. Some people have asked what 'clic' stands for? But the name is abstract and was chosen because it was bilingual, short, snappy and easy to remember. A basic service will be available online from 1 October 2004 via www.cliconline.co.uk . The new website will initially mainly use information developed by the previous provider Canllaw Online (although some revisions have been made to the Education and Employment and Training sections) but all of the content will be reviewed and further developed as the project progresses over the next 3 ½ years. We will be asking young people for their ideas for future development of the service. This will be their service and we will be building consultation and evaluation into all stages of the project development over the next three and a half years. Young people will be able to access information and advice on 10 topics: .Education Recruitment of staff for the project will take place this autumn and will include posts for a National Project Manager and seven Regional Co-ordinators who will be responsible for working in partnership with local networks and disseminating information about the service to partner organisations and of course young people themselves. Adverts and job descriptions in due course. Some initial marketing materials (posters and flyers) will be forwarded to statutory and voluntary youth organisations across Wales to raise awareness of the service with young people (mailshot week beginning 27th Sept). Careers Companies will also be sent supplies for use in careers centres, schools and colleges, Youth Gateway etc. Other marketing materials and merchandise have been ordered but these will be retained for the launch and local use by Regional Co-ordinators when appointed. A general press release will be issued on October 1. The 'clic' service will be launched officially by Jane Davidson, Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning on Thursday 25 November at 5.00pm at Cwmbran Centre for Young People. Invitations for this event will be sent in due course. Isobel Brown |
