| HRH Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex, attended Celtic Challenge in 2006 and spent a considerable time chatting to the participants. He chatted to the team from the open award centre as they were completing the climbing wall challenge. | |||

The Celtic Challenge is an annual competition between teams of twelve young people from Duke of Edinburgh Award groups from all over Wales. In 2006 over three hundred young people took part in challenges such as human pinball football, climbing, mind and physical challenges and team building events. The Torfaen Open Award Group came 10th overall in a competition which attracted 22 teams from throughout Wales. This was partly due to us fielding a depleted team as Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School did not give permission for pupils from the school to have a leave day. We managed to field a team of 9 competing against other teams that had 12 members. The day was superbly organised by the team from the Brecon office of the Duke of Edinburgh Award in Wales and they are to be congratulated for the smooth running of this mammoth event. |
