The Blades Junior Canoe Club was formed by St Dials and Croesyceiliog youth clubs in 1994 following requests from youth centre members and to introduce the sport of kayaking to the youth service programme of activities. The age range the club caters for is 11-16 yrs.

Initial financial support was given by Torfaen County Borough Council until such time as the club was able to become self sufficient. The club now has three experienced, qualified instructors who  assist young people in developing their skills in this challenging activity with the objective being to become confident and competent in kayaking. The club is now an integral part of Torfaen Youth Service.

A Sportlot grant enabled the club to buy equipment such as left handled paddles, throw lines, aquatic first aid kits and new buoyancy aids, all of which have been purchased to develop the club further for the benefit of young people.

As the result of an equipment grant from the Sports Council of Wales the club was able to purchase a new fleet of 12 kayaks, complete with cagoules, buoyancy aids, helmets etc that  means the club can now offer river trips and expeditions.

Purchases as a result of additional funding has seen the fleet of available boats grow to twenty plus, all complete with new buoyancy aids, spray decks and paddles. In addition towlines, throwlines and other ancillary equipment means the club is extremely well equipped.
